Sky-Watcher Skyliner 150P
A full-size 6-inch Dobsonian at the lowest price point that still delivers serious planetary and deep-sky views from a stable, ground-standing platform.

What you'll see
The 150mm aperture and long f/8 focal ratio make this scope strongest on the Moon and planets. Lunar craters, rilles, and mountain shadows snap into focus with real depth. Saturn shows its rings clearly, with the Cassini Division visible in steady seeing. Jupiter reveals two or more cloud bands, the Great Red Spot when it's facing you, and all four Galilean moons. Mars at opposition shows a distinct disc with the polar ice cap and occasional hints of darker surface markings.
Deep-sky performance is genuinely rewarding for a scope at this price. The Orion Nebula shows wispy structure around the bright Trapezium core. Globular clusters like M13 begin to look granular around the edges rather than just fuzzy blobs. Open clusters such as the Double Cluster (NGC 869/884) and M35 resolve into individual stars. Faint galaxies like M81 and M82 in Ursa Major are visible as soft glows, and brighter galaxies like M51 hint at elongated structure under dark skies.
The main trade-off is field of view. At 1200mm focal length, the true field with a typical 25mm eyepiece is around one degree — enough for most targets but too narrow to frame the full extent of M31 or sweep the Milky Way. This is a scope that excels at medium and high magnification, not low-power panoramas.
Worth knowing before you buy
No tracking or GoTo — objects drift out of view at high magnification and must be manually re-centred every 30–60 second…
The tube is approximately 1.
Collimation is required periodically and after transport — a normal Newtonian maintenance task but unfamiliar to beginne…
