Sky-Watcher Esprit 120ED
A premium 120mm apochromatic triplet refractor designed primarily as a deep-sky imaging platform for experienced astrophotographers.

What you'll see
As an imaging refractor, the Esprit 120ED's defining characteristic is its exceptionally flat, colour-free field across a large image circle. The triplet apochromatic design with field flattener built in means stars stay pinpoint to the corners of a full-frame sensor — something cheaper doublet ED refractors cannot match without additional correctors. At 840mm focal length and f/7, it hits a versatile sweet spot: enough focal length to give good image scale on galaxies and planetary nebulae, while still fast enough to pull in faint nebulosity without excessively long exposures.
For imaging targets, the 840mm focal length frames mid-sized objects beautifully: the Orion Nebula fills much of an APS-C frame with room for the surrounding running man nebula, the Whirlpool Galaxy (M51) and Leo Triplet are well-framed, and larger emission nebulae like the Heart and Soul or North America Nebula are accessible with full-frame sensors. Andromeda's core and inner disc fit comfortably, though the full extent of the galaxy will be cropped on smaller sensors.
Used visually — which is not its primary purpose but entirely possible — the 120mm aperture and excellent optics deliver sharp, high-contrast views. The Moon shows crisp detail with zero chromatic aberration, Jupiter reveals cloud bands and the Great Red Spot, and Saturn's rings are cleanly defined. Deep-sky objects benefit from the refractor's natural contrast: globular clusters appear granular, and brighter nebulae show structure even from suburban skies.
